Characteristics of an Entrepreneur

There are many articles online that define the characteristics of an entrepreneur.  I remember when I was younger I searched that exact keyword in search engines.  I always wanted to be an entrepreneur and I thought knowing the characteristics would help achieve that goal.  Over time I began to realize that the characteristics of an entrepreneur are different for everyone.  However, there is one characteristic that every successful entrepreneur I met has…

PASSION!  That’s it.  You can’t buy it and you can’t teach it.  That is why passion is the most important characteristic.  Other common characteristics like time management, ability to plan, negotiations, etc. can be learned.  If you do not have passion, you are not going to truly enjoy your business.  Work will seem like work.  However, if you are passionate about the business you are starting, everything is fun and isn’t just work.  Don’t get me wrong, you will still be stressed because sometimes things just happen.  The great thing about passion is that it will get you through the stressful times.

The other reason I feel passion is the most important characteristic is because it makes other characteristics a lot of entrepreneurs have natural.  For example, a lot of articles mention that believing in yourself is a great characteristic to have as an entrepreneur.  When you are passionate about the businesses, the self-confidence and belief that it will be a success is already there.  Passion also gives you the motivation to learn and acquire other characteristics needed in order to be successful.
